Taking the Johnny Appleseed legend and teachings to new heights of awareness, in April Dr. Christopher Washington, Urbana University’s Executive Vice President, and Pam Achenbach-Covert, Johnny Appleseed Museum Coordinator Professor, announced the appointment of Mike Mongo, astronaut teacher, founder of Mike Mongo’s Astronaut Job Fair, and the author of The Astronaut Instruction Manual, as the official Ambassador of Johnny Appleseed in Space. The announcement, made during Mike Mongo’s International Space Development Conference (ISDC) keynote this past April in Arlington, VA, opened the door for a number of awareness activities, including United States launch service provider United Launch Alliance (ULA) agreeing to carry the Ohio-grown apple seeds to and from space on an upcoming, as-yet-to-be-determined spacecraft and space flight.
Guest astronaut teaching for Colombian students Space STEAM programming, along with NASA Solar Ambassador David Lockett.
One of the largest annual Space industry events in the US, the International Space Development Conference features representatives and competing science teams from over 20 nations.
From the website:
"The New Worlds Conference is a comprehensive gathering of the people, companies and institutions dedicated to opening space to human development and settlement.
Featuring top level academic sessions on such topics as space habitats, resources, transportation systems and international policy, New Worlds brings together the best of the best when it comes to those setting our course towards the Moon, Mars and the Free Space between worlds, from NASA to commercial New Space companies.
New Worlds, while built on a foundation of hard-core science and engineering, is also a celebration. It is designed to draw in the next gen, create a platform for the heroes and experts who got us where we are today in space to inspire new ideas and concepts that can disrupt today’s conception of what tomorrow can be."
Join hundreds of passionate young professionals and students for the annual national conference of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space. The conference is run and organized entirely by students, and will run from November 1-3, 2018. SpaceVision 2018 will be held at Town & Country Hotel in San Diego, CA.
Astronaut Job Fair is a two day event that gets kids empowered to imagine themselves in space and a transformative experience for middle-grade students. Astronaut Job Fair is a STEAM-education experience within the event structure of an actual job fair, only featuring job opportunities such as space plumber, lunar farmer, asteroid miner, and space athlete!
“Launch Pad is a workshop for established writers held in beautiful high-altitude Laramie, Wyoming. Launch Pad aims to provide a “crash course” for the attendees in modern astronomy science through guest lectures, and observation through the University of Wyoming’s professional telescopes.”
St Louis is the destination of National Space Society's (NSS) 2017 International Space Development Conference. This year I will be moderating a space STEAM panel featuring:
Loretta Whitesides | founder of Yuri's Night
Christine Nobbe | NSS Board of Directors
David Thornburg | Thornburg Center
Jason Branham | NextGen and ISDC 2017
Janet Ivey | PBS’ Janet’s Planet
Yuri's Night is about one big worldwide space party–and who does parties better than Los Angeles? Join me with Apollo 9 Astronaut Rusty Schweickart, private space explorer Anousheh Ansaria, and serial space entrepreneur Peter Diamandis as one of Yuri's Night LA ambassadors partying the night away underneath the Space Shuttle Endeavour at California Science Center's Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center
More info: Yuri's Night LA.
Yuri's Night is the biggest annual space party event in the world! Join me at Columbia Space Science Center as I deliver the keynote for Yuri's Night Kids, and let LA kids know: "Tomorrow's jobs are in space!"

"Space is for Everybody" presentation at SXSWedu.
SXSWedu is an annual conference focusing on innovations in learning. SXSWedu occurs at the HIlton Downtown Austin and Austin Convention Center. Like other SXSW festivals, SXSWedu seeks to converge the wide variety of stakeholders who share an interest in 21st Century innovation and best practices.
It is my pleasure to be leading community workshops on outreach & scicomm by invitation from Anchorage Makerspace. Makers and the maker movement are what is driving the next stretch of space exploration. As I am in the Anchorage area for the first time, I will be speaking at a number of schools as well. Stay tuned.
I'll be speaking on Space and Outreach panel at SEDS SpaceVision 2016, Purdue University. SpaceVision is annual conference of Students for Exploration & Development of Space (SEDS) and is pretty much the place to be if you are a space science degree-seeking undergraduate or grad student. SpaceVision is a great place to find a job in the space industry if you're a college student, and one of my favorite conferences of the year.
DENT:SPACE is a new conference, and one I am very excited about. First of all, it's in SF (Yay! Bay Area!). Secondly, and even better, DENT:SPACE has one of most thoughtful and diverse line-ups at any science conference I've ever attended or presented.
